On the hillside above the village of Strážné stood a classic log cabin, from which, due to insensitive renovations in the past, it was technically impossible to save almost anything. Architects from the studio Mimosa therefore decided on a new building that respectfully revives the traditional proportions and typology of Krkonoš architecture. The new cottage, with its massive steep roof and stone base, does not derive from the preserved material but from the principles of mountain construction. To give the house authentic warmth, safety, and material integrity, a complete wooden solution from Oakcent became a key element of the interior.

The foundation of the entire interior is a solid, fully glued oak floor from Oakcent. The choice of generous dimensions (thickness of 15 mm, widths of 195 and 255 mm, lengths up to 2200 mm) with a brushed surface and bevels gives the space a clear rhythm and continuity. The floor, treated with a white pigment and a special oil, pleasantly brightens the mountain interior and allows the natural structure of the oak wood to shine through. Additionally, a solid staircase made of the same material perfectly complements the floor surfaces, enhancing the purity of the entire architectural solution.

The uniqueness of this realization lies in the detailed individualization of the wall cladding, which naturally connects to the floor and creates a refined play of tones throughout the cottage. Most of the cladding boards on both the ground floor and the upper floor feature a tint in the elegant shade of quartz grey, which gives the wood a modern, muted character.

The absolute centerpiece is the central living room, where the architects opted for a strong contrast: dark cladding with extra smoking and hand-crafted longitudinal edges. This detail adds depth, patina, and a sense of absolute safety to the main social space by the fireplace.
